A capacity crowd of 600 enthusiastic students, parents, and teachers enjoyed the workshops, displays, and special presentations at this year’s 7th annual Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery. Hawaii Space Grant is proud to partner with Punahou School, the Hawaiian Electric Company, the family of Lacy Veach, and the Center for Microbial Oceanography (C-MORE) to make this a special event each year. A record number of 250 volunteers shared their enthusiasm for science, math, and technology in 24 exciting workshops. Workshop presenters came from 20 organizations and 16 organizations sponsored displays and exhibits throughout the day. The keynote speaker who energized the crowd and helped us celebrate NASA’s 50th anniversary was Astronaut Stanley Love. He is no stranger to Hawaii as he worked at U. H. Manoa in 1994 as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, and we were thrilled to have him here to share his space experiences with us.
