The Hawaiʻi Data Science Institute (HI-DSI) is a University of Hawaiʻi System-wide effort focused on interdisciplinary research and data science education. HI-DSI supports data-intensive research, helps create new degree and certificate programs, and fosters industry partnerships.

Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program

DOE laboratory thesis research support

The SCGSR program helps prepare graduate students for STEM careers critical to the DOE Office of Science mission by providing thesis research opportunities at DOE laboratories and facilities.

The program provides supplemental awards to outstanding U.S. graduate students to pursue part of their graduate thesis research in mission-relevant research areas.

Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program

Coastal and marine research network

Founded in 1968, the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program is part of a national network of 33 programs that promote better understanding, conservation, and use of coastal resources.

Hawaiʻi Sea Grant works with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology and NOAA to identify critical resource management issues and guide research that addresses them.

The Aerospace Option Program

Windward CC certificate pathway

The Aerospace Option Program (AOP) certificate emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning by applying traditional STEM coursework to real-world, project-based research and internships.

Managed through Windward CC’s Center for Aerospace Education in affiliation with HSGC, the program gives students the chance to work alongside NASA engineers while building practical STEM skills.
