Successful Proposal to Friends of Hawai’i Robotics Written by Art & Rene Kimura

Robotics boosters and mentors, Art and Rene Kimura, wrote a successful proposal to Friends of Hawai‘i Robotics for 20 VEX IQ kits, five competition fields, and five game sets. They also secured eight $500-value grants from the Robotics and Education and Competition Foundationto allow schools to compete in a new VEX IQ category, which is focused on elementary and middle schools. In helping to start this new program, the Kimuras are pleased to already see 40 teams registered, with two regional and one state tournament planned. The Hawai‘i VEX IQ State Championship will be held in Pearl City on Feb. 16, 2014. The Sacred Hearts Academy junior high Lancer Robotics team was one of the recipients of this grant funding. In the school’s September 2013 Parentline newsletter, they shared, “The team is grateful to Art Kimura…who wrote the grant allowing many schools, including the Academy, to organize VEX IQ programs.”
