17th Annual Children and Youth Day
The State Capitol and surrounding areas overflowed with youthful energy during the 17th Annual Children and Youth Day. Art and Rene Kimura, HSGC Directors of Future Flight Hawaii, were invited to organize the four-hour Brushbot and VEX robotics action, one of 200 free educational activities offered during the day. Students learned how to make Brushbots from toothbrush heads and miniature vibrating motors and were invited to compete in speed races and the robotics sumo tournament. Participants were also treated to a VEX robot demonstration and hands-on practice driving the robots to try to score points. This activity was co-sponsored by Hawaii Space Grant Consortium, Radford High School Robotics Club, Kalani High School Robotics Club, U.H. College of Engineering, and the Friends of Hawaii Robotics.
