First Hawai’i Botball Robot Regional Tournament

Hawaii Space Grant Consortium, the UH College of Engineering, and the Hawai`i Convention Center hosted the first Hawai`i Botball Robot Regional Tournament on March 13, 2004, at the Convention Center’s Exhibition Hall III. Twenty-three student teams from Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island participated in the Botball Educational Robotics Program and showcased their work at the daylong tournament. There were 13 Botball regional tournaments held throughout the country. This was the first time that any school from Hawaii participated. Co-chairpersons of the Hawaii Botball program are Art Kimura of Space Grant and Paul Fetherland of Hawaiian Electric Company. Read the Honolulu Star-Bulletin article. Overall tournament winners receiving trophies were: 1st place to McKinley High School, 2nd place to Hualalai Academy, 3rd place to Waiakea Intermediate School, 4th place to Kawananakoa Middle School, 5th place to Hawaii Homeschool Association, and 6th place to Waialua High School.
